4 Simple Ways to Detox From the Inside Out This Spring

Updated: Mar 31, 2019

Spring is coming and I am literally on countdown! Those of us in the Midwest and on the East Coast have experienced quite a cold and snowy winter and I am ready for it to be over *insert pout face*. Spring is when I feel most amazing, both mentally and physically. The sunny days, blooming flowers, and mild temperatures just make me feel SO good!

As we head into springtime, many people also revisit their New Year’s Resolutions to get back on track with their health and wellness goals. Whether you just want to be healthier overall, have more energy, get rid of crazy hormonal and digestive symptoms, or even work on your summer body...it all starts with the inside of your body.

One of the pillars of my business is helping women understand the importance of detoxifying their body. No matter what your specific health goals may be, its nearly impossible to reach them when your body is filled with toxins and inflammation.

I'm here to give you 4 "spring specific" tips to help you get a head start on removing toxins from your body so you can get your glow on from the inside out.

Make Fruit-Infused Water

Dehydration is something that many people experience year-round, without even knowing it. Not only are you at a general risk for not drinking enough water, but in the spring when it gets warmer and you workout a little more, you sweat, which then causes you to need even more water to stay hydrated.

Infused water tastes better than plain water, and has the added benefit of nutrients from the fruits, vegetables, and herbs you infuse it with. You can go simple with just lemons and limes, or kick it up a little with berries, vegetables (like cucumbers), and herbs like mint or thyme. One of my fav infused waters is lemons, cucumbers, and mint. You can serve fruit/veggie infused water at your next spring outdoor event, like a cookout or picnic. So refreshing and healthy for your guests!

Add More Salads to Your Diet

Spring is a great time to make some healthy changes to your diet. Not necessarily eating less, but eating better quality food. For something crisp and refreshing, try a fresh salad. Salads are perfect for the spring because people are usually consuming lighter foods. A salad will keep you satisfied but wont cause that heavy and bloated feeling like a super hefty meal.

Load your salad up with great detoxifying foods. Use your favorite leafy greens like kale, spinach, or romaine, and top it with vegetables of your choosing. Adding a protein like hard boiled eggs, wild caught salmon, or organic chicken is another excellent option. Some spring salads also incorporate fruits like apples, pears, blueberries, or strawberries. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little.

Focus on Spring Superfoods

If you want to detox your body and take better care of your health, think about adding more superfoods to your diet as well. These are foods that contain a higher-than-normal amount of vitamins and minerals, including certain nuts and seeds, fruits, and vegetables, and even seafood. Some superfoods that are perfect for the spring season include tuna and salmon, veggies like artichoke, asparagus, spinach and lettuce, and fruits like strawberries and blueberries. Oats, arugula, and walnuts are also on the top of the list.

Focus on Organic as Much As You Can

In the spring we are often eating more fresh produce such as fresh veggies and fruits. Be mindful that pesticides are often used on these foods when they are grown to keep pests (including weeds) away. Pesticides are chemicals that can be very toxic to our body. Pesticides can also really effect our hormones and lead to hormonal imbalances.

Buying organic produce is so important to help minimize your chemical and toxin exposure. Its hard to detox your body when you're constantly adding more toxins in the mix. It ends up being a never ending cycle.

Buying organic antibiotic and hormone free meat is also crucial. Cows and chickens for instance, are often pumped full of antibiotics, growth simulators, and hormones. When we eat these animals we are also eating ALL those chemicals. Talk about toxins! If you eat meat, try to ensure that you are going for organic options that aren't treated with all those extra chemicals. Your general health and hormones will thank you!

Try out these 4 suggestions to begin reducing the toxic load in your body and cleanse it from the inside out. Remember to take your time when switching up your diet so that you can make life long sustainable changes. Try 1 or 2 things off this list and begin building on them.
