Let's face it, we all have moments where we get a strong sweet tooth. No matter how faithful you are to your healthy eating regimen there are times where you just gotta have some dessert. How awesome would it feel to satisfy your craving without sacrificing any progress on your waistline?
I've heard of people using frozen bananas as a ice cream substitute for some time now, but I've just never tried it. I finally made a chocolate "ice cream" tonight and I have to say....I like it! Does it taste exactly like our favorite ice cream at our local parlor...not quite. However, it tastes very similar, cuts that sweet tooth when you have one, and doesn't knock you too far off your healthy eating regimen.
Even the calories in the 1/4 cup of chocolate chips and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder in this recipe is minimal compared to the alternative. See the recipe below and let me know what you think. It's quick and easy and should be on your menu for dessert tonight :-)
3 ripe bananas
1/4 cup of cocoa powder
1/4 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips
2 Tablespoons of maple syrup
1 Tablespoon of water
1 Tablespoon water
Pinch of salt
Cut up 3 bananas, place in a ziplock bag and freeze for at least 2 hours. I let mine freeze for about 8 hours. You can also freeze overnight.
Place bananas in a food processor along with the cocoa powder, maple syrup, water, and salt. Mix until smooth and creamy, about 3 minutes. Then add the chocolate chips to the and utilize the pulse option on your food processor to briefly mix them in the mixture.
Place in a small container and freeze for another hour to 1.5 hours.
Serve in a bowl and enjoy!
Tip: Keep in mind, you can always substitute the chocolate chips for Dates or Raisins to make the recipe even more guilt free.
